Glad to highlight another win that my team has been working on over the past year. Parallel Wireless has selected AWS EKS Anywhere as Kubernetes management platform for its cloud-native Open RAN solution. Parallel Wireless, the U.S.– based Open RAN Network Software Provider delivering a leading Cloud-Native Open RAN solution, today announced it will work with AWS to deploy its cloud-native Any G (2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G) wireless network solution leveraging Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) Anywhere. Amazon EKS has also been named as the company’s Kubernetes management platform. This will help Parallel Wireless offer solutions that simplify the process for mobile network operators (MNOs) to run Distributed Unit (DU) & Centralized Unit (CU) application workloads across different hosting environments, including on-premises and cloud.
Open RAN is an industry initiative led by network equipment providers and mobile network operators (MNOs) to design and deploy open, non-proprietary interfaces and protocols-based RAN elements. This approach provides more flexibility to MNOs in selecting best-of-breed solutions for deploying their next-generation wireless networks. Parallel Wireless’ Open RAN solutions, including the distributed unit (DU) & centralized unit (CU) applications, enable MNOs to diversify their supplier ecosystem and avoid vendor lock-in, lower overall total cost of ownership, introduce new innovation models, and unlock new revenue opportunities.
By using Amazon EKS Anywhere, MNOs can now run, deploy and manage Parallel Wireless’ Open RAN solutions, including the distributed unit and centralized unit workloads on existing commercial off-the-shelf hardware platforms. Amazon EKS Anywhere helps Parallel Wireless provide the same unified APIs that can span multiple domains of a wireless network infrastructure (such as RAN, Core, IMS, OSS/BSS, etc.) across the cloud and on-premises environments.
