IDC – “Amazon Q12022 Results: Telco Industry a Key Growth Driver for Amazon’s Cloud Business”

by Vamsi Chemitiganti

At AWS, I lead the global container practice for two key verticals – Telcos and M&E (Media and Entertainment). My group spends a lot of our time being customer-focused and working with customers & partners on a daily basis to understand trends, use cases, and business goals. We then help drive quality inputs into products, design platforms, and architectures. We are very deliberate about applying AWS technology thoughtfully to solve these challenges and to position our customers for the next two decades by being forward-looking and “cloud-driven”.

I am asked a lot about what the biggest trends have been over the last 12 months. It has definitely been very busy, with the main driver in Telcos around network transformation/5G, in M&E customers around streaming media platforms and media supply chain systems. We are also overwhelmingly focused on large enterprises figuring out how to transform their businesses using edge computing, containers, serverless, streaming data, and machine intelligence.

To that end, it was very heartening to see the analyst community focus on the demand for AWS in the Telco industry. IDC has just published a report [1] on the AWS & Telcos partnership that helps out customers deliver cloud-native platforms and solutions. I would also point long-term readers of the blog to this post I did about a year ago that somewhat presaged this trend – https://www.vamsitalkstech.com/5g/six-areas-where-hyperscalers-telcos-should-collaborate-in-2021/
